John Schmid
Co-Founder, President

A passion for the construction industry fused with exceptional professional ambitions led John Schmid to start Schmid Construction with his brother in 2002.

Early on, John worked in commercial construction at Turner Construction and Nassal Company where he gained hands-on experience executing various theme park projects.

John holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Central Florida and a master’s degree in business administration from Florida Institute of Technology.

When he’s not at work, John enjoys heading to the beach and exploring new areas with his family, as well as following UCF football.

George Schmid
Co-Founder, Vice President

In 2002, George Schmid teamed up with his brother and founded Schmid Construction, a company built on a family-first philosophy and a commitment to exceeding customers’ expectations.

Entering the field right after college, George gained hands-on expertise through his previous roles at Turner Construction and Beers Construction (which later became Skanska).

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, George received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and holds a LEED AP Building Design + Construction certification.

In his spare time, he stays busy with his kids’ sports practices and games, traveling with family and friends, and cheering on UCF’s football team.

Vinay Jotwani
VP of Preconstruction

With more than 25 years’ experience in construction, Vinay Jotwani is a highly skilled and well-versed Preconstruction Manager.

As a former assistant project manager, cost engineer, assistant superintendent, and general superintendent, Vinay gained extensive knowledge while working for Turner Construction and Bovis Lend Lease.

Vinay’s accomplishments include complex projects such as luxury condos on Miami Beach and a LEED Silver Federal Bureau of Investigation building in Colorado.

A graduate of the University of Florida, Vinay holds a bachelor’s degree in building construction and also received the LEED AP Building Design + Construction certification.

On weekends, he enjoys spending time with family.

Kirk Kennedy
VP of Operations

After knowing John and George, co-founders of Schmid Construction, for many decades, joining the Schmid family just made sense to Kirk Kennedy. As Vice President of Operations, Kirk oversees the company’s construction projects on a daily basis. He credits his success to proactively studying the granular detail of project schedules and scopes of work to identify potential issues before they arise.

A Licensed General Contractor, Kirk worked for many years in the construction industry for companies including Turner Construction and The Nassal Company. Kirk earned a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering.

When not working, Kirk enjoys boating with his wife near their home in New Smyrna Beach. They are proud parents to two adult sons.

Tom Dozier
Corporate Development

Corporate Development Director Tom Dozier possesses more than 17 years of experience in construction-related sales and marketing. He assists the leadership team in exploring projects that complement Schmid Construction’s family-focused culture.

Tom developed his acumen for business development and expansion at well-known companies including John Deere, United Rentals, and UPS. He enjoys networking and holds memberships in the Orlando Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Tom studied interdisciplinary business at the University of Central Florida.

In his free time, he leads an AEC charity, and loves golfing and traveling with his family.

Debbie Small-Gunther
Controller

When it comes to the numbers, everyone knows to count on Debbie Small-Gunther. As Controller at Schmid, Debbie leverages nearly 30 years of construction accounting management experience.

Before joining Schmid, she worked with some of the most respected firms in the construction industry and has been able to gain insight from developer and contractor perspectives alike.

Debbie has been a member of the Central Florida chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) since 2010 and has served on the board multiple terms. She likes to volunteer with Gives Kids the World and the Ronald McDonald House.

To relax, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. She’s visited 33 of the 50 states.

Fred Dittmaier
Project Executive

Joining the Schmid Construction family in 2012, Project Executive Fred Dittmaier oversees all aspects of daily operations and encourages a collaborative atmosphere among his team members.

Prior to coming to Schmid Construction, he worked in the industry for more than 20 years where he gained valuable experience as a field engineer, cost engineer, and project manager for Turner Construction.

Fred received a bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in management from Florida Institute of Technology.

Outside of work, you can find him on the golf course and spending time with family.

Barry Deemer
Senior Project Manager

With more than 25 years of industry experience, Barry Deemer understands each aspect of the construction process. At Schmid Construction, Deemer manages a diverse range of building projects.

Due to his expertise and collaborative leadership style, many of Barry’s past building projects earned industry honors and awards. In particular, he led the restoration of the Amtrak Orlando Station, which the City of Orlando’s 2015 Historic Preservation Awards named Outstanding Commercial Project. Barry has also led the complex installation of an octagonal sanctuary at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Winter Park that won an award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Central Florida Chapter.

Barry graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in building construction.

On the weekends, he spends time camping with his family.

Chris Hopkinson
Senior Project Manager

Well-versed in diverse aspects of construction, Senior Project Manager Christopher “Chris” Hopkinson brings more than 30 years’ industry experience. At Schmid Construction, he leads planning and implementation of various projects assigned.

Originally from the United Kingdom, the trade press recognized Chris as one of the top project managers in the UK before he relocated to the United States in 2003.

Chris received training as a chartered director and a chartered builder, and holds a diploma in performance coaching and a license in City and Guilds from the UK

After work you can find him getting a workout teaching Zumba® classes.

Brian Roehn
Senior Project Manager

Senior Project Manager Brian Roehn’s passion for building quality projects is an approach he carries into every aspect of his role with Schmid Construction. With more than 15 years’ experience in the industry, he thoroughly enjoys the dynamic work of commercial construction.

In his role, Brian oversees start-to-finish project management for many medical (AHCA) and assisted living facility assignments. His most memorable project, a Federal Bureau of Investigation office, had many high-tech security features like James Bond.

Brian studied business management at the University of Central Florida.

Outside of work, he loves family time and traveling.

Luke Poynter
Project Manager

For Luke Poynter, a Project Manager, construction runs in his blood. As a teen the Clermont native worked alongside his father, a general contractor, and entered a drafting program in high school. Later, Luke became interested in the management side of the industry.

He joined the Schmid family in 2013 as Assistant Project Manager before being promoted. Luke’s cost management, budgeting, and scheduling skills have earned him a reputation for on-time, on-budget and high-quality project completions.

In addition to holding a degree in construction management from the University of North Florida, Luke is also a Qualified Storm Water Management Inspector (SWPPP).

Come vacation time, you can find him at his family’s cabin nestled in the North Carolina mountains.

Kraig Clabough
Project Manager

For Kraig Clabough, managing a construction project is a lot like preparing for a baseball game. You have to pick players for your team, prepare for curve balls, and ultimately hit the ball out of the park. The Project Manager should know – he played for the Single-A Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

After graduating from Florida Institute of Technology, Kraig worked in industrial construction at power plants for several years.

Kraig’s knack for building things isn’t limited to physical structures; he is passionate about building strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike.

When he’s not working, Kraig enjoys spending time at the lake and in the gym.

Keith Ringeman
General Superintendent

After working in the construction business for over 35 years, Keith Ringeman can resolve potential problems before they even arise.

As General Superintendent at Schmid, Keith is responsible for constructability pre-planning during preconstruction project pursuits, project walkthroughs to evaluate quality, schedule and safety; subcontractor performance, and overall organization at the project level. At any given time, Keith is managing day-to-day operations for nearly 20 commercial projects.

After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in civil engineering, Keith worked in construction in South Florida for 20 years. A Certified General Contractor, Keith has supervised a wide spectrum of projects including medical offices, retail, industrial and more.

In his free time, Keith enjoys deep sea fishing and carpentry.

Lisa Sells
Executive Assistant

In 2010, Lisa Sells joined Schmid Construction as John Schmid’s Executive Assistant. She is a motivated team leader overseeing Human Resources, IT, Property Management, AIA Contracts, and the organization of corporate events.

Prior to joining the Schmid Construction team, Lisa was in the fashion/retail industry as a buyer and merchandiser for Mercantile Stores and Dillard’s. She has brought her strong negotiating business skills to maximize business savings.

She studied pre-law and marketing at Pensacola Junior College and the University of West Florida.

When away from work, Lisa is spending time with her family.

Jamie Brush
Marketing Administrator

Thinking outside the box comes natural for Schmid Construction’s Marketing Administrator, Jamie Brush, who spearheads the company’s communication activities.

In college, a hands-on internship at The Pointe and Gosnell stimulated her interest in construction. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communication and interdisciplinary studies at Florida Gulf Coast University, she headed West for a few years where she worked for a large developer handling communications for the sales and marketing department.

Jamie’s passion for community involvement fuels her participation in The Construction Underground’s Orlando chapter, Cornerstone Hospice, and The Schmid Foundation.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors and fishing.
